OS 10.3 - help with connectting dsl, please

I am trying to connect my dsl to my imac which is running system 10.3.9
it shows i have a connection through my ethernet port but it doesnt connect to the internet. i have/ had AOL on dial up and whn i use the dial up to connect then it shows on my dsl it connects.

if that makes any sense. i think its a setting in my system i need to change
but have tried everything, can someone please help.

what carrier are you using? Talk to carrier. they may have to reset modem
they will walk you thru the intire process including computer settings.
