Theres a bunch of threads about connecting from mac to xp or xp to mac. But i'm trying to connect my macbook to a friends macbook. She just bought it and has been calling me about 5 times a day asking me how to do the smallest task.

So, how do i connect from my macbook to her macbook? We're both in the same city but not on the same network.

On apple's website they say that apple remote desktop is only for a connection between macs on the same network....

I looked at log me in but its a web interface and was hoping for something that'll be more responsive. Anything else available or should i just use Logmein.com?

Thanks in advance!

The simplest (and free) way is with LogMeIn.com - they now offer the service for Macs.

ARD can certainly be used on macs remotely across the globe. Only some functions require a lan (such as wake).
ARD is the fastest performing and most robust tool, if you can afford it.

schweb This has to be one of the best threads ever in MF history...
Cherokee This gets my vote for most innovative thread on Mac-Forums... ever.

You need to forward your friends ip if you want to get in. Find out what kind of router she has. I will be happy to help you from there. Just pm me...

Does this work with PPC macs trying to connect to Intel Macs? If it does, will I be able to see and manipulate the Intel desktop (file creation, etc.) from a PPC mac and even run applications on the Intel Mac from the PPC mac once I log in?

Sorry if this is a stupid question.
