I plan on networking a few computers to help render my video files, in programs that support rendering clusters.

My question is, would I get better performance out of 1 mac pro, or 3 mac minis? I know the mac pro is more powerful, but what is confusing me is that 3 mac minis has 3 more processors the the mac pro, yet it alot less money. I feel like the mac pro is paying for things I don't need like graphics cards, and other higher end equipment when all I really need is processing power.

So if you wanted to get more rendering power, would you go with 3 mac minis or 1 mac pro?

But don't you need the power of the graphics card for video rendering?

You need the graphics card for realtime effects, rendering is done by the processor, my friend has it with 3 powermac g4s, I think I am going to go with the minis because after some research it makes more sense and its cheaper.
