Hi,
Got an iMac 3 weeks ago (made the switch from my Windows pc when it finally died) and I'm quite happy I did. Yesterday, we bought an XP based machine for my g/f (she doesn't like the iMac and we like having our own puters) along with a Linsys WRT54G router and a wireless adapter for her PC which is in the bedroom. I installed the router and hard-wired the iMac to the router but I can't get the setup (192.168.0.1) to appear using Safari, I get "Safari could not open the page http://192.168.0.1/ because the server stopped responding". So, what do I do now? Why can't I access the setup page from my iMac? Should I install the adapter on the XP computer and do the setup (wirelessly) from there? BTW, we got ADSL... Also, the router has a built-in firewall, should I turn OS X's firewall off? Thanks, Gemigene |

however. if you iMac has an airport card you may want to try the same process on your gf's pc. for some reason its easier that way. again, you don't need to use the setup disk that came with the router. and....make sure all your cables fit tight and snug. try rebooting as well. |

I am having the same problem you encountered in 2006. What finally worked for you? I've tried using Google Chrome, Firefox and Camino. I don't know what else to do. Please help!
Here is my error message using the Linksys WRT54GX4 firmware, Mac OS 10.5.8: Safari cant open the page http://192.168.1.1/ because Safari cant connect to the server 192.168.1.1. |
