OK, where to start....

For reasons I wont go into,I want to attach 2 external hard drives to my old desktop PC running win 7 ultimate and still get access to them from my macbook air over the network. The PC is connected wirelessly to the netgear router using a dongle. I have a Macbook Air which is connected to the netgear router via a wired connection. Both work fine in connecting to the internet (PC has full signal).
Both have sharing on for files and printers, but they cant see each other ???

Is it something to do with me already having a `homegroup` set up on the PC ?

I have googled the issue, and all i seem to find are how to change the settings ....which are already correct...

Ok...update.

I have just been to look at the PC again, and it now sees the macbook air, but cant connect to it. It is asking to check the spelling and check the network.

I have double checked the settings on the mac
System prefferences>>>view>>>sharing>>>>>tick file sharing and printer and scanner sharing

anyone know why I cant access the mac from the PC and especially why I cant see the PC from the mac

I have typed the IP address of the router (192.168.1.1) into the browser (firefox and safari), but the mac times out before it opens the router page.

latest update...
after tweaking, the PC is seen by my mac, and I can access the files I need to share....all is good in the mac world.

PC though, still cant access the mac.

I have read what seems like every bit of bumph on the net to do with this issue but still none the wiser.

I`m going to try one more thing when i get a chance, and that is to connect the PC to the network with a wired connection instead of wireless to see if that is the issue.

I will keep anyone interested up to date when i`ve tried this.

Foe what it is worth Netgear products are not too Mac friendly. Lack of drivers.

Hang on to those original install discs like grim death! Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!
