Wired PC to Ibook Network

I am a total newbie just got a 500mhz ibook and haven't gotten the airport card yet but wanted to net work my PC with the ibook while i use it at home.
aside from the obvious router what else do i need and how do i go about this? its not going to be anytime soon that i get the airport card.

Either a router and 2 network cables or a "crossover" cable.

With a crossover cable you can not use a router and just plug the cable into the ethernet ports of each computer.
