I have an iMac and I just recently upgraded to Snow Leopard two weeks ago. But last week, I started experiencing an issue with Safari. Apparently, from time to time, Safari will unexpectedly quit due to a certain plugin known as UltraLinguaES.tmp
It happens about 5-10 times a day. I have attempted to remove this plugin, but I can't seem to find it. The Console application told me that it is located in Library > Safari > Application Support but it is nowhere to be found. I also tried typing it in my computer's search box and got nothing. So I don't know what to do now. I don't even know why I have that plugin, apparently it had something to do with language translation or whatever, which I don't really need. Any advice on what I should do? |

mmm my first question would be - where did you find it? if i do a search on google it gives me a lot of weird sites with cracks and such. for what is that thing?
is this the correct support site? Ultralingua if so - maybe give them a shout and ask how to remove it? My Mac Journey! Tips and Tricks I share with you - http://www.themacmania.com |

We do have a completely legit translation bookmarklet that you may have installed at some point, but we haven't heard of it causing trouble like this before. Please email escalate@ultralingua.com for immediate support. We'll help you get this sorted out. You can also visit Support | Ultralingua for general help, but we don't have anything posted in our FAQ about this since it hasn't come up before. Again - really sorry about the trouble. I'm sure we can get this resolved soon. Have a great day! Ashleigh |

I'd hate to say I'm losing hope but I e-mailed the issue to Ultra Lingua and they're clueless. They've never heard of a plugin called UltraLinguaES.tmp before. I tried reinstalling Safari 5.1.5 too from the Snow Leopard CD but now I'm back to square one. Firefox works fine, but I love my Safari.
Maybe it would help if I post some of the error message I keep getting. Mind you this is just a clip of it, it's a really long message: Safari had unexpectedly quit due to .UltraLinguaES.tmp Process: Safari [149] Path: /Applications/Safari.app/Contents/MacOS/Safari Identifier: com.apple.Safari Version: 5.1.5 (6534.55.3) Build Info: WebBrowser-75345503~2 Code Type: X86-64 (Native) Parent Process: launchd [106] PlugIn Path: Library/Application Support/.UltraLinguaES.tmp PlugIn Identifier: .UltraLinguaES.tmp PlugIn Version: ??? I sure hope there is, I really don't wanna give up my Safari. Whatever this thing is though it started after I upgraded to Snow Leopard. I did try a couple of experiments though. If you look at the beginning of my error message, it gives you two different file paths. The first is the Safari path which is /Applications/Safari.app/Contents/MacOS/Safari. I tried typing that into my web browser and I get a black webpage with nothing in it. Then there's the PlugIn Path which is Library/Application Support/.UltraLinguaES.tmp. I typed that into my browser and get the same thing, a black webpage. Now, when I physically click to go to the Safari path above, I go to applications and see the Safari icon but the only way I can to the last part (Contents/MacOS/Safari) is by holding Ctrl and clicking on the Safari icon and it will show me the Contents. When I open MacOS in the contents it shows me another Safari icon which happens to a Unix file. I figured this is where the problem is since its mentioned in the error message, I tried putting it in the trash without emptying it but I couldn't re-open my regular Safari anymore, so I took it back out :-( As for the PlugIn Path, when I go to Library then Application Support, there is NOTHING under the name .UltraLinguaES.tmp so I have no idea what its talking about. |

I'm sorry we haven't seen this before. We'll help you figure it out the best we can.
Here are some instructions which might be helpful in removing the extension: How to Remove Safari Plug-ins We will keep investigating it on this end and see if we can pinpoint the problem. Ashleigh |

Great news everyone!
Since it appears this was a hidden file, I researched how to find hidden files on a mac. I downloaded a mac program called Hidden Files and it immediately showed me every hidden file on my computer. So I went to the location of .UltraLinguaES.tmp and deleted that sucker. So now it's gone. It was some type of unix file, not sure why Mac thought of it as such importance to keep it hidden but now it's gone. |
