Hello all
I'm looking for a way to network my Sony Bravia TV with my Mac (OS X 10.6.8) so that I can play videos directly to my TV without having to go through the bother of first saving the video to a thumb drive and then plugging the thumb drive into a player connected to the TV.

i've heard that something called Twonky will do just that. I've downloaded it onto my Mac and also the Twonky Beam for Mac, but I have no idea what to do next - like how to upload my videos to Twonky for it to beam it to my Mac, or how to get twonky to show up on my Sony Bravia.

Can anyone help me please? Online videos have not been very helpful.

Much appreciated

Doe's your Bravia support DLNA?

Hi there...yes it supports DLNA 1.5

I have it connected to my home network using a wifi dongle, but there is also a wifi direct option in the menu. i just don't know how to use it or whether the bravia is even compatible with a mac

It's nothing to do with the platform i.e. Mac. That's where DLNA comes in. It's a platform independant standard for file sharing - audio/video media in the main.

Personally, I'd get rid of Twonky. And get XBMC for Mac. It's free.

Install it and from the setup point it to the folders you have you media in that you want access to on your TV.

This will 'advertise' the media via DLNA on your network.

Once on the TV setup you should be able to see the DLNA server and access your media.

I'd suggest a visit to the Sony support website and grabbing the PDF version of the manual for your TV and installing any firmware updates for it too.

Thanks so much for that tip. I will try XBMC. It's had mixed reviews but I live in hope.

I've used XBMC on PC, Mac and AppleTV. It's interface can be a bit bewildering at first but just google adding folders and you'll find loads of info, feel free to post back here too!. Once you've pointed it to the folders you want to use you can effectively forget all about it.

Let us know how you get on.

bewildering is the right word!! I've downloaded it. Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous. But am completely in the dark as to how to use it or how to 'find' it on my bravia. Do I go to local network, or home network? How do I 'tell' XBMC which are the movies I want to play? is there no user guide or how-to for a noob like me?

I'm so sorry but it's all greek to me. I found the settings page and have ticked the enable unPnP button but there's heaps and heaps more options there than I know what to do with - allow http controls etc etc...also, the guide is for PC so everything looks different on my mac.

Sorry, that's a lot to wade through.

Start XBMC go to Video - File - Add Source. Click Browse and select the folder where your videos are stored etc. Click ok. Use the Add button to add further folders.

Go back to videos and check if your folders have been added. Right click on each folder and select “Set Content from the menu. Select the type of content. Select “Run automated Scan” & “Scan Recursively” buttons.

Go to the “System” Tab - “Network” and press the “Share video and music libraries through UPnP.
