I setup the Time Capsule via extende WIFI network. Everything worked fine until two weeks ago I suddenly get the following error message when I go into the Time Machine backup preference where I select the Time Capsule as the drive to backup:

There was a problem connecting to the server "Time-Capsule.local".
The server my not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again.

Pfff I did change anything, at least not consciously. I upgraded a few weeks ago to Lion 10.7, but even after that it worked. Then I went on a trip and when I came back I noticed that the back was not backing up any more.

Airport Utility has no problem finding the Time Capsule and I can access it.
Via finder I can see the Time Capsule in the Shared section but when I click on it I see "Connection Failed". When I click on "Connect As" i get the same error message as above.

I am not fit enough on networking stuff to know where I should start trouble shooting. Who can tell me which parameters to check or where to start?

In Airport Utility under Base Station try restart.

do you use the time capsule as a router as well as time machine backup? can you ping the time capsule?

I also have the same problem as of 6 days ago and now receive a message saying "the operation cannot be completed, an unexpected error occurred (error - 6584). I get back-up failed very hour.
Help!

May be I am blind but a restart I cannot find. I guess Base Station is called Time Capsule with a Time Capsule. But I did power it down. Is that the same or does restart do more than that?

Pinging is no problem. It works.
