Forgive me if this is a lame question, or has been solved before but I've been all over the internet and cant seem to fix this problem.
I recently moved to a new apartment with new roommates. The wireless network has already been set up here. There is not password to the network. I cant connect to the wireless network with either my macbook pro or my imac. All the PC computers in the house connect fine. My droid phone can connect wirelessly to the network fine. Anytime I try it just says "there was an error joining the network" I've never had this problem before, at my old apartment (or anywhere else) I connected just fine to any wireless network. Is there an extra step I need to take to "force" my mac to join? All updates are current Thanks |

You'll need to provide more information. What type of router? What type of security is on the network (WPA, WPA2, WEP?)
My guess is you're going to find out that it's setup as a WEP network (which is totally worthless from a security standpoint). Most Macs have trouble connecting to WEP since it's an older protocol. You'll want to switch the network to use WPA2 which is far more secure anyway. schweb | community leader flickr » facebook » twitter » tumblr » google+ » about.me Mac-Forums: On Twitter | On Facebook | On Flickr

I'm also having serious problems connecting with my Airport. I've alsojust moved but my router was supplied by the same company. I'ts working on WPA2 . I'M SURE I DROVE THE COMPANY MAD CHECKING the network. When my kids came back from holiday, they had no problems. they both use PC's. In fact I'm writing to you now using one of their computers. Sometimes my airport recognizes the wireless network. Sometimes it manages to hook up and sometimes I can go for hours with no problem. Othertimes it recognizes but can't connect to the internet and at this moment of speaking it cannot connect, actually, the problem has been getting worse over the past week, and thinking my MAC was infallable, I placed the blame on the network. WRONG!!. However, if I use ethernet I'm up and away, so I am assuming it's the Airport playing up. Is this a common problem do I need to take the Mac book back for a check?
