Current setup: Verizon DSL modem > AirPort Extreme. The AirPort Extreme is providing wireless connections to two Mac's, 3 PS3's and 3 handheld devices. It's also connected VIA Ethernet to our DIRECTV system. Everything mentioned is working perfectly. Here lies the problem. I have a Denon AVR-2112CI HT receiver that has built in AirPlay. It's supposed to connect VIA Ethernet. I can not get the AirPort Extreme and the Denon to play nice.

The Denon will connect properly if I connect it directly from the Verizon DSL modem. To test the cable and the port on the AirPort Extreme, I turned AirPort off on my MacBook and connected it directly to the AirPort Extreme and everything worked ok. I've talked to Apple and Crutchfield Tech support. Neither could figure out what's going on. Unfortunately Denon's Tech support is only open M-F. So I can't talk to them until tomorrow. If anyone can help, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Oh Yeah, the Denon was just released a couple weeks ago. Firmware is up to date on the HT Receiver and Airport Extreme.

As an installer I have only had to make an ethernet connection to the router/ modem
for receivers/TV to get their firmware upgrade or internet radio but I did notice that an upgrade fee is required for Denon to use Airplay. Denon

osxx, thanks for the reply. Denon's new line of receivers don't require an upgrade fee to use AirPlay. It's built in. Like I said, it works perfectly if I connect it straight to the Verizon DSL modem. Thanks again.

Ok so after spending a few hours on the line with various tech supports we have it "kinda" figured out. For some reason the Denon only likes a "10." IP address. Here's the fun part though, if I turn off the receiver it won't reestablish a connection with the AirPort Extreme so I have to open the AirPort utility and switch to either a "172." or "198." IP then switch back to "10." for the Denon to work properly. Kind of a pain in the butt but at least I can use AirPlay now. For now I've instructed the family to not turn off the receiver. If anything changes, I'll be sure to update.

I maybe wrong but 172 or 198 would mean that you have the AEBS in bridge mode
which means your modem is disbatching the ip if you change the setting to distribute
ip and put your AEBS in DMZ then the ip will disbatch with a 10.

osxx, thank you for the help. what does DMZ stand for? you are correct, the AEBS is in bridge mode.

i really appreciate your help.

It basically lets any and all traffic to the AEBS and hands out ip distribution
to all of your equipment instead of modem/ router I re-read you have a modem from Verizon unless
they combine wireless router and modem in one ignore the DMZ part I am
so used to dealing with 2Wire when someone mentions DSL. If the unit in question has no wireless (the verizon modem) I would change the AEBS
to distribute ip instead of bridge.

It's just a modem. It doesn't have built in wireless. I'll give that a try. Thanks.

The reason I would change your settings one way or another would be the possibility
of double NAT which bridge mode would keep that from happening and the ip would be distributing 192 or 198 what ever is in your range but 3 digits in the distribute ip
mode it will almost always start with 10. off of the AEBS which is issueing ip's the main thing is to make sure both the Verizon modem and your AEBS are not both
handing out ip's or double nating. Give this a look without knowing the model no. http://www22.verizon.com/residential...ree/123756.htm

I'm at work right now so I can't check. However, the setup steps on Verizon's website says the Westell DSL modem must be in Bridge mode to work with a 3rd party router. So I'm guessing that's what the modem is set to.

Ok I know this thread is a couple month old but I thought I'd give an update. I got Crutchfield to send me a replacement receiver and it works as it should. No issues whatsoever.

Braven, how do you like your receiver? I'm thinking of getting either that model of Denon or the one above it to replace my current receiver

class77, we like it a lot. The AirPlay feature is what sold me. It would have been nice if it had wireless ability. Luckily our router is near our home theater setup.

Yea, it kills me that my $159 Sony blu-ray has wireless, but I have to buy a $2500 Denon to get wireless. Everything lower than that has a ethernet connection, but not wireless. Do they make a wireless plug-in for that type of situation?

No they don't. I'm pretty sure the Pioneer does however. Check it out. Pioneer VSX-1021-K Home theater receiver with 3D-ready HDMI switching and Apple AirPlay® at Crutchfield.com
