Hey guys. New here, just bought my first Apple computer - a 13' MacBook Pro.
I have a quick question regarding my at home wireless network. I currently live in an apartment and use the same linksys wireless router ive used for several years. It does the job, but I am wondering if by upgrading my router I can expect fast internet speeds? I currently own the Linksys Wireless G 2.4ghz router. I don;t have any extraordinary needs, however I do want to increase my internet speed if its possible to do so. Any thoughts? |

What is the model of the Linksys? Should say somewhere in front and on a label on the bottom? Like WRT54G?
Does it work well? Does it crash and have to be reset? If no, keep it. Reason I want the model number is I want to see if it's an older B wireless or G. If it's G, a new router no matter how fast your internet speed is, it will make no difference. I was using a Linksys WRT54GL for years. Still use it as an Access point. Went to a new Dlink because I needed the Gigabit Ethernet ports and Wireless N. Not for Internet speed but network file copy. |

You're not going to see a noticeable difference really, assuming you're jumping from G to N.
If it's working fine, and you're happy, I say keep it. And to clarify the previous poster, 802.11n is backwards compatible with G routers (using the G speeds, of course). He kind of implied that you need an N router. "That's Peter Graves scat! I'd know it anywhere!" |

Just because if his current router is working fine, he doesn't need to make the replacement. Now, if he does make the replacement, I wouldn't recommend getting a G over an N.

Liquid and computers don't mix. It might seem simple, but we see an incredible amount of people post here about spills. Keep drinks and other liquids away from your expensive electronics! |
