My HDD in the time capsule is only 500 meg and is now full.

I have seen many articles that you can put in a bigger HDD,

1) has anyone on this site done it
2) Do I need to format the drive before installing.
3) do I need to update any software to "tell" the time capsule it has a bigger drive or will this occur automatically.
4) Whats the biggest drive I can install

Thanks

Check this article
Cracking Open the Time Capsule | Applefritter

I have taken out a time capsule disk to recover my data after it died - following this article - but I put it into a drive cage - not another time capsule.

Brilliant article, thanks I am purchasing a cheap 2TG seagate drive to put into the time capsule. You have saved me quite a bit of money.

Thanks Ivan
