This is possibly a stupid question because I don't fully understand what makes the internet slow. My internet was really slow today loading web pages and movies, is this because I have to much stuff downloaded on my computer, or to many programs running, or a lot of people are on the internet, or something completely different.

Thanks for your help.

Check iTunes if you use it to download material from the store. If you have some downloads pending and start it, it will look for them and start DLing them automagically. This caught me out the other day, worth a check.

The next-to-last part of your questions is relevant, the others are (probably) not. If a lot of others are using the internet at the same time as you, and you're on copper cable ADSL, you'll notice a slow down (there's only so much water that can flow through a pipe). If you're on fibre-optic cable, or satellite even, then something else is wrong.

Having a lot of applications open, with limited RAM, will also slow internet, but it will slow a lot of other things as well. What are your Mac specs (put them in your profile)?

Slow internet is really a matter for you to take up with your ISP. If you're not getting what you're paying for, then tell them that.

Something else you can do is run ping and speed tests. The recommended one is Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test. Choose servers with a star, and include offshore tests.

Please post your Mac (or other) specs and MacOS version in your post, your profile or your signature. It helps us to help you better.

I'm leaving now to go and find myself. If I should return before I get back, please ask me to wait.
QUOTE Thanks
