Hi,

I have a eMac 1.25ghz running Mac OS 10.4 which is not fitted with any Airport card.

I am trying to connect via a wireless usb wifi adapter. I can't get it to work.

The USB wifi adaptor is a sparklan brand, and is mac compatible. I can bring up a configuration screen, on which I can input my wpa key, etc, but I am not sure what settings go where. I know where the wep key goes, and I have configured it to work with wpa security, but beyond that, I am stuck.

My broadband provider is Be Broadband, and I am using their supplied router. I am open to any suggestions you may come up with.

I'm about to embark on the great wireless trek, so my response is more in the form of a question to clarify, ie. have you tried an ethernet cable connection to the present modem/router, does the Mac-router connection work via cable; and what brand is the router?

One of our NZ ISPs has been handing out a certain brand of router that isn't worth a pinch of you-know-what, it's been configured to work with that ISP only, and the Mac just doesn't want to know (via cable). Basically, it's a waste of time. The router can be tweaked, but it's not worth the effort.

So, check to see if there is complete compatibility between Mac-wifi adaptor-modem/router. It's possible you may need to change the router.

Please post your Mac (or other) specs and MacOS version in your post, your profile or your signature. It helps us to help you better.

I'm leaving now to go and find myself. If I should return before I get back, please ask me to wait.

Good luck as have never been able to get a USB wireless adapter to work, including Linsky and Netgear. Whilst they say they do on the box, different story when trying to connect alas!

I have connected via ethernet in the past, but not with this wireless modem/router though.
