Well it is my turn to ask for advice. I would like to keep my modem in use that I have now (2Wire 2701HG-B) and use a Netgear router to extend my network (DGND3300). Any ideas on how to do this?

Tech Inventory:
uMBP 15.4" 2.4 Ghz/4GB RAM/250 GB, uMBP 13.3" 2.53 Ghz/4GB RAM/500 GB, iPhone 4 (Black), iPhone 3GS (Black)

Let me be sure I understand you. You want to keep the 2Wire 2701HG-B as both a modem and router and just use the Netgear router as a WiFi Access point or as a Wireless Bridge in another location to pick up the WiFi from the 2Wire 2701HG-B and plug another computer into the Netgear? Or do you want to use the Netgear as a router and just use the 2Wire 2701HG-B as a Modem?

Let us know so we can better help.

Sorry if I offend you, but that was a bit convoluted. The way I wish to set this up is keep my 2Wire in my living room by my home phone, and then the Netgear router in my bedroom being used by my 2 MBP's, PS3 and DTV receiver. The modem will not have anything connected but the Netgear. Not sure if I am explaining myself right.

Convoluted? No I was trying to see what you want. I have set up 100's of networks many different ways. You were not clear so I was asking.

How is the Netgear to be connected to the 2Wire? That is the part you are not clear about. Wired to the 2Wire or as a bridge picking up the Wireless from the 2Wire? Do remember the 2Wire you have it NOT just a modem but a Modem, Router, Switch and WiFi Access Point. I have set up at least 20 of that exact 2Wire and know it well.

The Netgear is in no way connected to the 2Wire. I am trying to use it as an Airport Express/Extreme where you could "extend" the wireless network without any wires. I also do understand that the 2Wire is a a bunch of things at once, but I am only trying to use it as a modem and extend the network with the Netgear. I might use the 2Wire in the living room later in the future to connect to a HT. But not now.

Sorry about that last post, I didnt mean to come out like that.

I now know exactly what you want to do and will get back to you. I have to download a manual on the Netgear and see if it's possible to use it as a bridge. That is what you need it to do, a wireless bridge. I do that here in other parts of the house. Not all routers support that feature.

I will be back ASAP.

Any ideas yet? I am reluctant to buy a AE since this router has a USB port I can use to attach a NAS.

I to am very interested in this setup since this is exactly what I am trying to accomplish. Netwgear Tech support is no help and has offered three different answers, none of which make sense and I am not a networking guru.

Would surely appreciate the results and instructions to this post.
