Would any of these be up to the challenge of hooking up to my 500GB external HD, and using iTunes to share my library, so that i can stream music to my laptop?

You should consider a NAS instead. Many NAS devices like this one have a built-in iTunes server. This way, you don't have to have a full-fledged computer sucking up electricity to do such a simple task.
Liquid and computers don't mix. It might seem simple, but we see an incredible amount of people post here about spills. Keep drinks and other liquids away from your expensive electronics! |
