Wink wireless printer and router performance
My router performance has slowed recently and i cant figure out why. I use a netgear wgr614v7- 4 years now. Sometimes performance is fine- other times not so much. My daughter and I have a hard time when were both online. I have checked the server connection and its fine, have rebooted everything, have troubleshooted with netgear with not much improvement. The recent addition of a wireless printer seems to be the only thing left that may be the culprit. Could the router be dying or is it more likely that the printer has slowed it up? Any info is great- thanks to all.

Could be a number of issues. What changes have you made in those four years. Are you both using Laptops and what current OS and ADSL? or DSL? or cable? What model of printer and how is it connected?

The only changes in the four yrs are the addition of the wireless HP Photosmart 6300c and the addition of digital cable and phone to my house. Both laptops are macosx 10.5.8 and my server is roadrunner high speed. The printer is simply plugged into the wall for power. Should this be wired to the router? Thanks for your help!

Ok here is what i would try - go into Sys Prefs/Accounts and in left pane click on the plus to add a new account - so set up an Admin account called test, then enable fast user switching in Log in options. Go to Apple menu and log out of your normal user and then log in to test account. Surf in that for a bit to see if things are quicker. If it is just as slow then connect printer temporarily to the mac to Test user with USB lead and set up.
Then try a bit more surfing so see if u notice any differences.
Perhaps even try some variations in conjunction with daughters laptop to see if anything becomes obvious.

Might even help if you follow steps i outlined here; http://www.mac-forums.com/forums/air...ing-weird.html

I just did what you said and Id have to say that I think it was quicker. I dont have much time right now so I should probably surf a bit more tomorrow. What does this mean?
