Please Explain Time Capsule Desktop Icons

Please explain the plethora of Time Capsule icons which appear but may not remain on the desktop. There are different colors, nnames and contents all for the same entity.

Which ones are supposed to be on the desktop?

Which ones perform as traditional Folders or Devices.
