Here's the set up:
Me: G5 Tower, (last PowerPC model before the switch), OSX 10.5.8. Connecting with Motorola 5B5101 cable modem to Charter Communications Father: G5 iMac, OSX 10.5.8 (upgrading to Snow Leopard in a day or two) connecting through an Airport Extreme ---> cable modem (don't know the model) to Charter Communications. Mother: G4 mini OSX 10.3? connects through same Airport Extreme as father. My parents have got the notion I'm their personal tech support available 24/7. I'm tired of being called at midnight to be asked to run over to their house and fix something because they can't properly explain over the phone. (Mother just wants me to come over, father thinks he knows all and tries jumping ahead and making things worse) I need to set up static IPs for all three of us so I can access their Macs from my home and access my Mac when I'm at their place. I need to be able to use desktop sharing (no, I can't afford Apple Remote Desktop) as well as FileMaker Pro 10. I did get help from FileMaker tech a few years ago to set up a static IP for FMP use on my Dad's iMac about 2 years ago, but I can't find the notes and he had to get the whole system replaced after 2 bad sound boards. I'm not your garden variety idiot. I used to work at Apple (HyperCard 2.0 team), and did Tech Support at Symantec. So, I'm a much more advanced idiot. Thanks in advance, Jim |

Agreed. logmein.com has PowerPc and Intel clients. It's free, secure and needs zero network config.
