Signal strength grey, but....

i on my 2 pc laptops, the strength is very good.

i have a G4 and i am trying to setup wireless internet. it doesnt find any networks, but my other devices do.

on the mac, i have an airport device but i want to connect without the airport. i have built in ethernet.

please help.
