how does the whole voip thing work? i understand the basic concept i think, the calls go over your internet connection, but what do i need to get it going?

Skype is popular for VOIP, I can get into the real technical stuff, but it's just a bunch of garble.

You can do VOIP with a computer or with a regular telephone.
