creating a network file server using A PC?

Anyone Know how to creat or use a pc desktop for use as a network file server. I made the jump to mac last Summer from a gaming pc to a macbook , just recently got a new imac and my girlfriend has an imac... I have about 3 250 sata drives and AMD X2 dual core machine running at 3.0ghz with 4 gbs of ram on vista.... can I use this as a file server on my network.... how can Turn this bad boy into a file server? any ideas?

Never tried it myself so it would be interesting to see if you can share a volume this way
