Hi,

At my flat, I'm having major trouble connecting wirelessly to the router we use between 4 computer, three windows and one mac, mine. The windows units have no problems but since over a month ago, my mac has just refused to connect to the point that I must run a 20m ethernet cable from the router to my room... irritating.

I've no idea where to start or what to do... I tried deleting the info in keychains and restoring disk permissions as I seen advised in a thread on here, I've had no success and no idea what information to supply or what so please help me and I will provide as much information as possible.

I did set up a guest account on the macbook and it instantly connected wirelessy to the router and no problems, for about half an hour then it just cut out... quite often I've seen that the connection is there, full strength signal, but nothing happens, I can't use the internet nor can I log into MSN/Adium.

Also, when I've tried reconnecting to the network as a new user after deleting info stored in keychain, etc, it's told me I had the wrong password when I've in fact used the correct one.

I can connect to other wireless networks no problems and my XDA Orbit connects to the wifi in my flat no problem... any ideas, advice, things to try?

I know my information provided may be vague and whatnot, but please ask for whatever info you need and I will try provide as much as possible. It's a macbook bought this time last year with the 2.2 Intel and 2G ram, all software updates via apple up-to-date.

Thanks in advance.

So far I've changed the SSID of the network, and all this is done is left me still unable to surf wirelessly though the PC's in the flat can now whilst I use the ethernet cable, previously the cable use was interupting their wifi use.

Changing encryption only seems to upset the router, wifi light goes red instead of green.

No joy yet and I'd really appreciate if someone could help with suggestions, even called the Applecare line yesterday which didn't help, even after some PRAM reboot.

what encryption do you use?? 802.11?? or just some sort of a key?? maybe a certificate?

If you open the Network Preferences, what does it say in the first screen of AirPort??
Here if you have something like self-assigned IP then you have the setting incorrect

In the advances seting there are basically 3 tabs you need to watch out for, the first one (AirPort) where you add all the different networks you want to connect to automatically, when you double click you have to specify encryption
DHCP, just make sure you don't have a static ip
in the 802 tab, fill out your user profile and maybe it's not loaded for your current connection, so just click on the arrow and load the profile with your login etc
sometimes I need to load the profile again for airport to use it as authentication in the network

maybe I'm just rambling, that's what I can think of off the top of my head

comment:
the signal just shows if the network is available, not if you are connected correctly
QUOTE Thanks
