Hello every one. I am a proud owner of a new 2.4ghz unibody Macbook and I love everything about it. Well beside the fact that my wireless drops out every 30 seconds!
I have read so many cases about this and I have tried so many things to try an fix it but it doesn't work. Heres what is going on... I have a Linksys router and I have comcast internet. My MacBook will connect and disconnect constantly from the wireless internet. I have changed the channels on the router and things like that. Also sometimes once it disconnects when I try to connect it says connection timed out. Also it will shows that the network is still connected when it drops out and it won't even load a web page while it says I have full bars. I have my pc laptop in my room also that works on the wireless fine. The signal strength to my room is 40-50% not a lot, but enough to keep a stable connection. Does any one know a permeant way to fix this connection issue on my Macbook? Any help would be greatly appreciated! |

I've also found this to be the case - I have a 2008 MacBook Pro Core2 Duo 15" and the Airport connection is much slower (for instance, when I'm using a public wifi point) than others around me. I've been using my MBP for everything since I got it in May 2008 and this problem has been consistent.
I bought a USB dongle to verify that it was the airport card, but discovered that (like most USB wifi adapters) it wasn't compatible with Leopard. I am now in the bizarre position of booting into XP via boot camp whenever I need to use a wifi access point because the external dongle works better than the internal airport card. Now, considering I shelled out 1.5 large for this piece of kit (which, I admit, is by far the best computer I have ever owned apart from this very serious problem) I don't think this is an issue I should be having to deal with. If I take it in to a service centre to get it fixed how long will I have to wait before I get it back? It is still under Apple Care warranty. |

First, please read the Wireless FAQ in this forum. 1. As a test, turn off all security in your router. (WEP, WPA, WPA2) Does that stabilize the connection? If so, you have a security issue either from the router side or in the network settings on your machine. 2. Make sure your router is broadcasting the SSID (network name) and it's the same as shown in your computer's network settings. 3. Verify your DNS settings as given by your ISP. Again, router and network settings. 4. Make sure your computer is obtaining its IP address by DHCP. (network settings) 5. As a last test (if the above does not help) attach an ethernet cable from your router to the computer. Are you now able to get a steady connection? Post back to this same thread. Regards. |

I can't do any of these things because, as I said before, I am using public access points. This happens in public access points without exception. If I knew I wasn't supposed to use my Mac at wifi hotspots, I might have thought twice about paying so much money for it.
Are Apple fixing this for customers, or is it a 'design issue'? |
