wireless problems

i'm in college and in my dorm i didn't pick up the campus wireless so i got a wireless router and put it in my dorm. my room mate has a dell laptop and it is working fine on the wireless network but for some reason my macbook pro is taking forever to open web pages. the router i'm using is D-Link g 54 router..any ideas or advice would be helpful
