Thanks in advance for any help you can provide me.
We just moved from South Fl. about 110 miles north. We had Comcast at our old house and have it in our new house. Everything is working fine................. except my Wifes' Vista computer. It CONSTANTLY comes up with a window that says "Windows has detected an IP Address conflict" and it boots you out of the network. This happens even when no other computer is connected or is turned on. My set-up is the following. Comcast Motorola Cable Modem, AT&T VIOP Telephone adaptor, Airport Extreme Base Station with WEP2 password. This is the exact same configuration as before in our old house. I have un-installed and re-installed the software for the AEBS, I have installed all of the updates form Apple and still I have this incessant problem. My wife has to log into a VPN at her work and works remotely and this is infuriating, no other computer in the house has this problem, she is getting constantly booted. I am unsure how to go into Vista and set a static IP address in the computer. I have tried ipconfig /renew in the command prompt and I get a message that says "the requested requires elevation", I do not know what that means. DHCP release does not work. I have dug around for a while in Vista to try and find where I can set a static IP address but can not find the section to do this. This is making us nuts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please let me know how to get this corrected and thank you very much for your help in advance. |

Vista has a built in security feature like OS X does, that certain actions require admin rights. What's happening is that when you try and run the 'ipconfig /renew' you aren't doing it in an admin setting. I don't have Vista in front of me, but you there is a Command Prompt box listed in the start menu (maybe under Accessories). Instead of left clicking on it, right click and choose to run as the Administrator. That should let you run the 'ipconfig /release' and then a 'ipconfig /renew'.
If you want to set a static IP address, then you should be able to do that by going into Control Panel and looking at the Networking section. Again, I don't have it in front of me, but you want to find the Network Connection/icon/etc for your the wired/wireless connection you want to use, open the properties, and find TCP/IP in the list. Opening the properties of that will let you select DHCP or enter a manual address. |
