I've got an wireless network established - on a D-Link DSL-G604T. Feeding into this is my internet connection - it's NOT ADSL, rather an Ethernet connection straight into this router (so I'm not using the ADSL modem in the D-Link).
My iPod connects to the wireless network, and browses the web without problem. However I can't get my new MacBook (or *any* other laptops) to do the same - it connects to the wireless without any problem whatsoever, but simply won't find the internet connection. What's different about the protocol that the iPod uses compared to the MacBook? - J |

What kind of ethernet connection straight into the router? I know of one system that operates that way with no modem - Verizon FIOS. There are others such as a company T-1 line.
Anyway, respond back and I'll try to assist. My system is Verizon FIOS and my connection is direct to the router. But I have no difficulty connecting both with my MacBook and a Toshiba notebook PC. I don't own an iPOD so have no idea how they connect. Note: FIOS is PPPoE (Point to Point Protocol over Ethernet) and generates its own DNS settings. Airport DNS should be set to 0,0,0,0 for primary and secondary. Regards. |

You know what, I don't know. I'm outside of the USA... it's pretty much a "a city-wide shared Ethernet". We plug the Ethernet cable into a relevant modem (ACS box) and then pipe that into the wireless router.
Fair question. Don't think so, will check it out. Funny that the iPod Touch connects and uses the internet without any 'software' though. |
