FTP setup for NVBackup on Palm TX

I'm stumped. I tried to set up the mac (macbook pro - 10.5) to allow my Palm to use ftp to copy a backup set from NVBackup. I don't have enough info available from the NVBackup program to know what my problem is... has someone else done this successfully?
