The printer/scaner that came with last years iMac scans pictures pretty grainy.

Is there anything I can do? I don't really get a good crisp scan like other scanners I have used. It is the HP photosmart express.

I like the printer but is there either a hardware of a software fix for the grain and white spots that are not on the glass or on the picture but end up on the scan?
