But to highlight an individual photo I need to open the event. How do I drag that photo to another event when the other events aren't visible?
I'm obviously missing something very fundamental here.

    Check out Apple's iLife pages:

    Lots of good tutorials there.

I cut and paste them. Open the event, select the pictures I want to move, cut them, go back to all events, paste them where I want them.

You have to hi-light the ones you want then split the event into 2. Then drag the one event with the pics you wanted into the proper event.

i use the cut and paste method. or, if you are finding say- all the pictures of your cats and putting them into a 'cats' folder, click 'hold' when cats is on recently visited and then you can drag onto that title from any event!

f you switch to "library" view rather than "event" view, you can drag and drop from the "rolls" just like in previous versions of iPhoto.
