Comic Life/iPhoto help

I've used a PC all my life, but decided to get a Macbook Pro for college this fall.

I was looking around at the various programs already on here and I really like the Comic Life program. I want to start making my own comics, but here's my problem: I fooled around with Photo Booth and thought the effects were really cool, especially the "comic book" one. I want to use real life pictures, but just add that effect to them in Comic Life. Is that possible? I can't find any way how to do this. Can someone help me out? Thanks in advance.
