I have an iMac about 1 yr old and there are some photos I want to send to my cell phone. I am using a HTC One v with cricket. How would I go about transferring these photos from my MAC to my smart phone?

Thanks

You could use Photo Stream. All about "Photo Stream" LINK

Edit: I just noticed you don't have an iPhone but an HTC. You need either an iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch to use Photo Stream with your iMac. Do you have an iPad or Touch? Otherwise, if your HTC has a memory card slot you may be able to transfer the photos to the memory card from your iMac.

Yes I have a memory card and my phone charger came with a USB cord which is part of the phones charger system.

What would happen if I plugged the end of my phone charger into the USB port while it was still plugged into the phone?

Would that give me the ability to transfer photos?

Possibly. It depends if your iMac recognizes the phone and "sees" the memory card or the internal memory in the phone. If it does, you can directly transfer the photos. I have two Samsung phones that my iMac recognizes and "sees" and I can transfer everything from photos, JPEGs, and ringtones to the phones.
