Import of JPG photos

I have a stick full of images I'd like to add into my iPhoto library.

Yet, I get the following message: "The file could not be imported. The file is in a unrecognized format."

They all are in the .jpg format which, I thought, was rather common...

Try copying them to a folder you've created on your desktop. Do you get the same error message?

If so, it's not iPhoto that's the problem. Try copying over one at a time, or random selections. See if you continue to get the message on just one, some or all of the pictures.
