Why doesn't Preview save my picture adjustment?

Sometimes when I use Preview to adjust the saturation of an image for example to make the grass look greener, whenever I save the image the adjustments I make especially in the saturation are not saved. Why?

Have you tried "export" or "save as" rather than save?

Export, in Preview?
I don't see that option, I use the save as option.
