COOLPIX S8100 from Nikon

My wife and I are looking at the above camera and just wanted to make sure that it will work with iPhoto and iMovie. We have a baby on the way and will be using this to make slideshows and short movies with iMovie for her family who lives in South Carolina and we are in Hawaii as of now.

I have not been able to find anything that specifically says that iPhoto will recognize this camera for direct download. However, in my opinion that is a very minor consideration (though your own use may vary). I NEVER download directly from my camera. It is quick and easy to swap the SD card (you need multiple ones anyway) and using an SD Card Reader download into iPhoto or Aperture or iMovie for that matter as you please.

Here is a link if you find it helpful on downloading to iPhoto

EDIT: FWIW I like Nikon but my opinion is their DSLRs are generally stronger contenders than their compact digitals. Below is a link to a review site that I like. If you click into their camera review database you can access a lot of information on hundreds of cameras. This link goes to what he considers the cream of the current crop.

I've always wanted to be smart, handsome and modest. But, I guess I'll have to be satisfied with two out of three . . .
