I got a file that I need to open and it's a .dxf format. I've found some free viewers online but don't know what's a good, safe on to download.

Any recommendations?

Recommendations I don't have, but if your not sure about downloading unknown software these are all trustworthy.

This is a small list of applications that wikipedia says can open dxf files, the problem is finding a Mac compatible app. AutoCAD DXF - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Blender can open some .dxf files. blender.org - Home

Google SketchUp Pro can open them, I'm not sure about the free version however. Google SketchUp

OpenOffice Draw says it can view them. OpenOffice.org - The Free and Open Productivity Suite
