Background of CS4

In photoshop CS4 there is no background of the application so I see my desktop threw the program if you know what i mean. How Can i make it so the program has a gray/white or whatever background

been discussed just recently ... the f key is the best way, but if you're coming from Windows you might like turning on the application frame by going to Window/Application frame which will always show a gray background
