how to compress jpg files?

I want to post some pictures online that are large. How can I reduce the size?

lower the resolution (Size and DPI) if you have Photoshop it is a snap but i am not sure i never use iPhoto

You could download a drag and drop app like 'Smallimage' which you can set up to reduce the size to lets say 600x400 pixels. Have a look on Versiontracker or Macupdate, lots of free apps that are ready to help out to be found.

If you don't have Photoshop, you can use Preview to do this. Just open the file in Preview, and choose 'Export' from the File menu. If you select 'JPEG' from the Format drop down in the Save As window, you get a popup that lets you set a target size for the file and set the image quality.
