I bought a book rather than doing it through online tutorials.

Digital Photography | Scott Kelby | Photo Retouching Secrets for Adobe Photoshop CS3 | Kelby Training

It is great and once you go through the learning curve you will be able to improve all your pictures easily and consistently.
