Video Exporting And Converting Speed Question

Is there any way to speed up the normally slow exporting and converting of videos on my macbook?

i have a spare computer that i would like to use in cluster with it to speed up the process but i dont know if that is possible or how to do it?

Please help or point me where i need to go to find out?
