Does anyone know of some good (cheap) chart software compatible with Excel (so I can drop a spreadsheet in the programme and then it spits out the chart) that can make cool/slick/businessy charts - similar to the ones in the FT?

If you are looking to essentially include Excel spreadsheets into Powerpoint style presentations, I would recommend the obvious first: MS Office, followed by NeoOffice (the Mac version of OpenOffice).

I do a lot of chart work, and frequently dump excel spreadsheets into Powerpoint charts. It works well and can be effective if used properly.

My Macs: PowerMac G5 Quad, 2.5 GHz, 4 Core, Mac Pro, 3.2 GHz 8 Core, Power Macintosh 7500/100
My iStuff: 32 GB iPhone 4, 30 GB iPod Video, 16 GB iPod Touch
My OS': Mac OS X Tiger, Mac OS X Snow Leopard, Mac OS X Leopard, Mac OS 8.6, openSUSE 10.3, Win XP
