Ok I have seen in a couple of sections (Apple Desktops/Notebooks/OSX) section that there are prefixes. For example in the OS X section you have 10.5 and then the topic title. My question is, how are these added?

I just have to ask, is it just me or are other people getting their posts deleted?
Since joining this great Forum not too long ago, I have noticed that 2 of my posts were deleted. The most recent is #3 and was a whole 3 page topic of "Windows Programs that you like see as a Mac program" (or something like that) was deleted since last night. I was going to add another post to this topic but now it is gone. I checked in my Profile to get to post I did last night and it's gone. I did a search for the topic and nothing came up. I searched the "Today's Posts" to include yesterday's posts and it wasn't there either.
I'm an active member on 8 music forums and 4 computer forums (under the same name) and I know what is allowed and not allowed to discuss when I am visiting someone else's home (forum). I'm here to share my knowledge and gain some knowledge from the Pro's on this forum.
MODs... if I posted something that upset you, please send me a message to let me know what I did was wrong. The only common issue with my 3 posts were that I mentioned Windows/PC. I hope this forum isn't like the VAIO forum when I mentioned my Mac and I got flamed by Mods and members for typing such a vile word (Mac) in a VAIO PC forum. :D

Just had to vent... Cheers!

There is always a number of people from tiem to time that post on the forums why is a Mac good and why should I get one. And always a few posts in they get shut down by a moderator stating there is a million of these kind of threads already. And that is true but to a new user who is after up to date information about people's personal Mac options as to why they are better, it does not help them.

But I have a suggestion to help this.
I think there should one thread where each member can post once why they think Macs are good. Best stickied too. So the new users can read the thread and then can go "ah so this is what a Mac is like and this is why they are good". It would be a nice 2nd opinion. The first being a play with one and a talk by an Apple man at the store.

And in this topic the Moderators would delete any general off topic chit-chat. As it's be there just for the new people to the form. Cause to me if I was a new user and I asked that kind of question and saw posts in there liek this question has been asked a million times before thread closed, I'd be like oh so that's what happens when you ask questions here, maybe here is not the best Mac forum to be at.

I know it's not like that but at first impressions from these threads it sounds that. And people don't search because they want up to date opinions. We all know the IT industry is fast paced. A company 6 months ago might have made good products but their range now could be bad.

This is just a little idea I had to help the new people to this forum and Macs hopefully :)

I've been using forums now for a fair few years now, since 2004 maybe. On my old forum I had around 27,000 posts which wasn't actually as high as you'd think with it being a very active forum. I came to this forum mostly because of my recent Windows to Mac conversion as I have just bought my first Mac. I really like this forum but all the sections are to do with Apple products apart from 1 where anything goes. Talking about Mac's is fun but I'd also like to talk about many other things. The Anything Goes section isn't really enough for what I am looking for. Maybe I have this all wrong and people use other forums to discuss random things then this forum to just talk about apple/mac's? If so then I apologize for making this thread.

I can be as sarcastic as the next guy but come on. I guess I should pepper my comments with some lol's or mask my belittling comments with supposed niceties and maybe it would be appropriate. If this is the toughest skin some people have, then I feel sorry for them in the real world. lol

What do you guys think?
If I'm alone in this, I'll gladly shut up.

I read the Mods cant do it, its up to the Administrators, but going a little further is it possible to add the date to the thread under the heading thread starter, where the title of the thread and the thread starters name is ? The date the thread was started ?

As it is ATM we can only see the date of the last post. It is possible to guess the age of some threads, depending on how popular/interesting is by looking at how many have viewed it.
As has been stated in the above previous thread, i am too sick of seeing a thread and looking into it more to find it was started a while ago...

Just a suggestion ....

Cheers

I've noticed a few very old threads being revived which is annoying to me because I think it's about something new but I look and the thread is 3 years old. One way to stop this would be to auto-close threads older than 6 months or whatever age you would like. This way, users can still view old threads and look for a fix for their problem but not bring back an old thread. Just another little suggestion from yours truly. Lol.
