Well,

this suppose to be a general question with further sub-questions to be able to explore the main issues.

I am just surprised to see across the forums, comments by those who claim to use their system{s}(laptop/desktop) for 3 or even 5 years, even with some upgrades!

What do you do...

Well,

this suppose to be a general question with further sub-questions to be able to explore the main issues.

I am just surprised to see across the forums, comments by those who claim to use their system{s}(laptop/desktop) for 3 or even 5 years, even with some upgrades!

What do you do with them, that they can last so long?

I had several laptops at the same time across high quality brands, and one mini desktop through the years. I use them daily most often on average over 14 hrs(utilize them fully).

Most they lasted for me was for 2,5 yrs, than either the screen got problems, and the cost for replacement was too high; or the inner world burns down in some way or an other.

Until now having a desktop in general didnt make sense, considering how bulky most systems still are these days.

Having my first mac system now, I cant believe what I have been missing all those years. As my evaluation in the past concluded, that they were kind of cheap style. Not much available useful support software for complex utilization as was available for window systems!

These days, I just cant wait everyday to use it. Everything is so speedy, so quite, and so fast, no spyware, no virus, no nothing - at least so far!

Though I am still trying to figure out, mac features and functionality its just amazing!

I wish there was a netbook version available, but thankfully some netbooks can be highly utilized even by using a mac OS!

Now, having checked up on the mac desktop selections, they look stylish, and practical to carry around. I might, consider one in the near future.

I am wondering those of you who have few systems, what do you do on each of those systems?

I am for example use my netbook on a big HD screen with several screens open, use my mac on the same HD screen its just emazing.

These days you can also use on most mac laptops, and desktop systems windows software do you utilize this by having two different software systems on one mac? Especially, now that windows 7 is regarded as one of the best window based software!

I am using several systems for differing purposes, for security reasons!

As I am often on the road, I have to carry around few laptops with me.

Having so far very positive experiences with my mac, I am considering now to have one system software for private and the other for biz.(maybe mac os & windows 7), or mayb create on mac os two differing profiles!

But the task is complex, how do you organize this all?

What can I do with the other laptops I have?

In the office I need six to eight screens, I am looking for functionality, user-friendliness, features, value for money, and of course security.

Also, in regards to security; how do you ensure while using an open wifi access securely on your laptops system{s}(on window/mac os?

What addon's, support software do you use to overcome all those? Despite all how do you ensure a smooth running system, that is based on reliability as much as on user-friendliness?

For those of you, despite me being a newbie on mac, I believe doing one;s homework(research) is half the work, before asking/saying something on these important topics! I did extensive research on these through the time, there is just too much knowledge out there. Surely, we cant be all aware of all, and even if we are aware if we dont have practical user experience that knowledge is most often of no use.

Anyone, in my situation? We might be better able to explore, together the interrelated sections to the main topic!

I have a 1TB external hard drive that was originally formatted NTFS.
When i started using it on my MBP, i purchased "Paragon NTFS for Mac" so i can read/write to the drive.

I just got an iMac which replaced my old tired PC, so I'm pretty much all Mac's.

I thought about dumping the content of the drive on to another drive and formatting the 1TB drive to a Mac OS format. (then dumping the content back)
But I'm not sure if there's really any advantages for me doing this?

Should i keep it NTFS, in case i ever have to hook it up to a PC.
Or should i just convert it to Mac OS Extended (Journaled)

Opinions, comments and advice is appreciated. Thanks :Smirk:

I have the latest 10.6.2 update but have a question about the tracking speed for the Magic Mouse.
I am happy with the Magic Mouse but the tracking is slower than other mice I'm used to. I have put the tracking at the maximum speed and slower tracking is nice for sometimes clicking just where I need to but when I'm going from one side of the screen to the other it's hard. I also am using it on a mousepad. I know it's not required but seems more comfortable but the mouse goes off the end of the mouse pad when I go across the screen.
Is there any possible way to make the tracking faster? I hope with a future update maybe Apple will make this possible if it's not now.

Today I went to plug in my Lacie 250 GB USB external hard drive into my 13 in. MacBook to get a shirt template for a design I am making. I discovered that the hard drive just would not mount and show on the desktop, and I remembered that this happened a few days before, but all I did was unplug it and plug it back in, and it worked... except that today, that didn't work at all. I tried the other USB port, and the hard drive showed up on the desktop for about a second, and then disappeared. I kept on replugging it back into both USB ports, but nothing happened.

Then I tried to see if it would work on the PC beside me, and it was recognized as an external device; however, a message came up telling me the drive was malfunctioning. I am guessing this is from ejecting it incorrectly (because I am in a hurry to head to my next classes... I use this laptop at school), but I have incorrectly disconnected it before in the past and this problem never happened to me before.

Every single project I have ever created for my design career is on that hard drive, and all I want now is to get my files back. All I need it to do is show up on the desktop for just the right amount of time for me to copy my files onto my computer.

I read online to put it into the freezer for a while and it should mount, but that didn't work. I tried using Disk Warrior, Data Rescue 3, and Tech Tool Deluxe, but the hard drive did not show up on any of those apps.

I tried plugging the hard drive into an iMac as well, but it did not show up either.

Thanks in advanced... I really need these files, it's about 5 years worth of designs.

- The 30" Cinema display

- Or the 24" Cinema LED display

At nearly half the price I am leaning towards the 24" display. I am using logic and ableton. What does everyone think and anyone had any experiences running logic and or ableton with a MacBook and display.

I was hoping someone might be able to kindly help me to save a bit of time and streamline my back up process.

I have an imac, and use Time Machine (about to also start using Super Duper) to back up the contents of my imac hard drive to a backup external hard drive (which gets regularly rotated with a second offsite backup hard drive). All I store on the imac hard drive are the applications and some basic admin documents, I don't really save any of my working files on it so as not to clog up the computer's hard drive (I am a photographer and work with lots of huge TIFF files which would clog up the imac hard drive in no time at all!) I am happy with this part of the back up process.

However, all of my working files (images etc) are saved directly onto a large external hard drive - this is my primary working drive. At the moment, to back this up I am having to do this manually. All new or amended files are manually copied to a backup external hard drive and are manually copied to DVD for offsite storage. What I really need is some way to make an automatic backup of my primary working external hard drive to a backup external hard drive. I can find lots of software that will automatically back up from the computer's hard drive to an external hard drive (such as time machine and super duper), but can't seem to find any that will automatically back up from one external hard drive to another external hard drive.

Can anyone help or advise please? Thank you!

I wrote the title wrong, it should be CD Drive does not work at all. No idea where the "Sounds" came from.

I've got a Macbook, which I'm afraid has gotten a bit dirty over time as I've neglected to clean it and now the CD drive doesn't work. The cd goes in and stays in fine, but when it spins it makes a horrible noise and sometimes even scratches the cd. I've also had a few cases where the CD simply wouldn't come out and I had to wait for a tedious length of time while my laptop tore away at the CD. It's been like this for a while and I've gotten by, but now it has really begun to become annoying and I'd like to fix it. So, I was wondering how I should go about trying to fix it.
