Hi there. I would like to put up something for suggestion/discussion. Since the "Anything Goes" forum is apparently not a place where anything goes, perhaps it should be renamed. I know there is a description, but the title might be misleading to some, especially new members. Perhaps we could rename it to "Mac-Forums Lounge" or "Off-topic spot". Post suggestions and comments here!

Uhm, not just anything goes in Anything for a reason. You don't post a question about an iPod in Anything Goes, you post it in the iPod sub forum

Obviously, but it's label seems to confuse newcomers. Just a though.

I tend to agree. The phrase "Not Anything Goes in Anything Goes" is sort of contradictory (as long as the content of the post conforms to website rules...i.e. SPAM, porn, etc.).

The title "Anything Goes"...means just that...Anything Goes!

It doesn't say "Anything Goes (except...)".

If someone is not experienced enough and posts a question in "Anything Goes" (which might be better placed in another forum)...then that person just won't get as large as a response as they had hoped for.

Honestly...the title "Anything Goes" really says it all...Anything Goes. If there are rules for "Anything Goes"...then it probably should be renamed.

My 2 cents,

- Nick

I think "Off-topic Lounge" or something to that effect would be good. But in general, I agree - "Anything Goes" with a subtitle of "Discuss anything you want here" is just asking for trouble, regardless of how many stickies or announcements are posted there.

Liquid and computers don't mix. It might seem simple, but we see an incredible amount of people post here about spills. Keep drinks and other liquids away from your expensive electronics!

Yeah, I understand that the mods go to a lot of trouble to get the message that it is an off-topic forum, but you're right! It is asking for trouble.

I know this isn't the first time this has been brought up by our members and I really do think it's time for a title change on that forum.

As it stands right now, it does our members a disservice by causing confusion and frustration when threads are moved and, it does our mods a disservice by having to constantly move threads out of that forum.

Personally, if it were my forum, I'd call it "The Lounge", subtitled "The place for off-topic discussion - meet new friends here and discuss common interests that are not necessarily Apple related".

At MacNN, we just had the MacNN Lounge and the sub War/Political Lounge.

Alright, what do you other mods think of this.

I can certainly understand the logic of not wanting questions in "Anything Goes" that would be better placed somewhere else.

It's just that if there actually are questions or posts that Do Not belong in "Anything Goes"...it would make sense to rename this forum.

Just note, it's not our call. We have just as much say in the matter as you do. Ultimately, it's up to the Admins and the site owner and they probably have their own reasons for keeping it the way it is. Not that I disagree with you, just want to set reasonable expectations.

iNet Interactive. If you look at the very bottom of any of part of this site, you'll see information on the company and links to the other forums they own.

Ah. I see. Do me a favor and ask them to eliminate the messages asking you to wait 130 seconds or whatever.
