Ok folks here's what I am trying to do:
I've got a 12"pb plugged into my entertainment system. I want to copy my dvd's onto my g4 server in the office. I'd like to have a list of quicktime files, that all I have to do is browse to that folder, pick a quicktime movie and it'll play on the pb...thus on my tv.

My method for doing this right now is:
1. Rip dvd using MactheRipper (either just main feature or full disc)
2. Convert the movie using current handbrake release.

(side note.. I'm using Tiger on both, with QT pro because I wanted the h.264 codec. I thought I'd be able to get way smaller files with it, but when I use handbrake, I still get about a gig per movie, give or take 150 megs or so.)

My main question is, is there a way to get an even smaller file size without cutting the quality? Wasn't that what h.264 was supposed to do?

Can I compress the Video_TS folder in QT?

I'd just like to get it so that I'm getting good video/audio, but with a smaller size.

Any hints or ideas would be appreciated.

Bishop

Using handbrake, I believe under the Destination place, under Codecs, you can choose the second option which is H.264.

Additionally, even if you could get it into smaller size(which I don't suggest, as I like full quality), I recommend you use a large, external, 7200 RPM hard drive, as these movies do a lot of reading from the hard drive in full quality. Using the internal drive isn't the best of ideas.
