Is your MBA a 2011 model ?
Is your ATV a 2 or 3 ?
Do you want mirroring or just Airplay the later is in iTunes page bottom right corner first icon which is a box with an up arrow on the bottom ?

Need to clarify since you did not respond to his question of what generation your AppleTV happens to be - what exactly are you referring to since there is no such thing as a "MacTV"?

I cannot be held responsible for the things that come out of my mouth.

Thats not quite right. Have a look at the Link osxx posted.
@OP from specs on the ML page you need a MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer) to be able to Mirror.

You might want to look at AirParrot. I have this using on my 2010 MBP and works fine. Trying to mirror Movies from the MBP is a bit laggy but apart from that works well.

Oh....more apologies. I think where I've got confused is that ATV2 won't stream 1080P.

I've never really been there with mirroring because I have a desktop, and it just seems a bit pointless for me because streaming movies and audio is all I want to do.
