can the new Apple TV stream anything from my mac? I would like play my NES emulator, surf the net, use my TV screen as my computer screen...will this work or is it only for media?

Sounds like you need a Mac Mini. The Apple TV will not do all of those things. If it did they would sell a billion of them for 99 smackers!

It can stream music and video from your iTunes library. That's really all it's intended to do.

A video cable to connect the two of them together.
Can be done for anywhere between $10-$30 (typically) depending on which Mac you have and the TV you have.
