Ah well. They had a good run but I suspected that eventually he'd get shut-down.

I guess you can only make up junk for so long before you get shut down.

The problem was a lot of it was not made up. They had a decent track record of being right, or at least close.

The problem was that they had inside information and Apple wanted to know the sources-- so basically just decided to sue the guy into oblivion. Pretty despicable tactics if you ask me.

They weren't as accurate as you might think:
Quote:
for all major announcements from Apple, Think Secret only gets about half of them right (11/22). For every Mac Book Pro they correctly predict, they miss a Video iPod. For every HiFi speaker they get right they miss a switch-to-Intel story. Taken another way a little less than half (8/19) of their predictions are completely wrong.
How Accurate is Think Secret?

That kind of 'accuracy' can be acheived by almost anyone.

When you look at other rumors sights in the Mac community, 50% is a phenomenal number. Most other rumors sights cited them. Considering that Apple targeted them specifically, they had to be doing something right.

They are just rumors. Why not just make up some of your own?

One problem Apple probably saw with rumor sites that had about 1/2 false rumors (regardless of how 'good' 50% is in relation to other sites) (and beyond the inside sources part) is that if ThinkSecret says Apple is about to announce a fantastic Product X and they instead release Product Y, the media latches on to the story that "Apple, Inc. failed to announce the much-anticipated Product X at their event today", regardless of how good of a product Product Y is.
It hurts Apple when the rumors are correct because they no longer control the announcement, and it hurts Apple when the rumors are wrong because people anticipate something that isn't true, making them seem to have 'let down' their customers by releasing the 'wrong' product. It's really a lose-lose for Apple.

Sitting, waiting, wishing...

Maybe we can ask schweb for funds to buy a Ouija board and then open another section in the forum for predictions or something.

Nah, there's still plenty of other crackpots out there that can keep making up the rumors.
