Reportedly the size of a hard drive.

Mac mini soon to die then?

AppleTV being upgraded also.

Hmm..they did report on the iPod Nano but that wasn't exactly rocket science..

My question is, how would you put a DVD in something smaller than a mini?

You're assuming it would have a dvd player. It might not.

It says it is as wide as an optical drive will allow; it's the height that's supposedly decreased significantly.

It's definitely doable; there's room for them to shrink the Mini if they're creative. My "insider source" says that we'll be getting Minis with "real" graphics cards in before the end of the year, so I'll be quite excited if that holds true as well.

Can't see that happening. Low end model, why would they spec it nearer to the imac?

Gaming. Apple & EA put a big emphasis on porting games to Mac. I think Apple will definitely take advantage of this in order to sell more Macs to switchers. I'm not saying that I think the new Mini or Nano or whatever it will be called will have a super powerful gaming chip, but Apple would be stupid to pass this opportunity up. If they're going to advertise games, how dumb would it be to buy a new Mac that won't play the games? If the improved Mini really does happen, I think the selling system will be "buy a Mini, it can play games" then "buy an iMac, it can play game better". Unless, of course, they sell some sort of Cube 2 or expandable/upgradable mid-tower

Well, it did have a "real graphics chip" until the Intel switch (Apple actually had a page on "PCs at this price won't play games because of integrated graphics, but the Mac Mini has a real graphics chip so it will!!!" That got pulled pretty quickly Along with the "G5 is 64bit... it's the future!!!" page. I've said before how Apple kind of went backwards by adopting 32bit Intel chips and putting Intel graphics chips in their Macs; but hey ho, I've got a 64bit Intel system with a real graphics card so I can't complain)

As to whether they can do it in an enclosure as small as it's supposed to be, while maintaining I/O and efficient cooling... well, if anyone can do it, it's Apple, but I wouldn't like to put money on it either way.

I have both a 1.25Ghz Mini and 1.66 Core duo. People keep saying the 32 Meg Radeon 9200 blows down the GMA950. I have ran test after test and every time the GMA950 beats it in games and 3d. Sure the GMA950 is no Gaming GPU but it's not quite as bad as people are saying. I am getting a 1.5Ghz G4 mini with a 64 Meg 9200 Radeon. Will re-run the tests, Games and see what happens.

There is no way they are going to put a first class Gaming GPU with resulting large Heat Sink in a even Smaller Mini. It will burn up.

Its not about "us". Its about the kind of people that use windows simply for games. Apple are trying to expand their market by captivating more and more trend lines.
